Pakistani-Origin Tayyab Ikram Re-elected International Hockey President
The formal announcement is expected during the FIH elections in Muscat, Oman, on November 9. Ikram, the first Pakistani to lead the FIH, has earned widespread acclaim as a top global sports administrator. His extensive career includes leadership roles with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), and the Asian Hockey Federation. The Pakistani-origin FIH president has been instrumental in shaping sports at seven Olympic Games, including the Paris Olympics 2024.
In his first term, Ikram bolstered the FIH’s reputation on the international stage, with the organization earning a nomination for the prestigious IOC Climate Action Award. His leadership also saw the launch of the “FIH Empowerment and Engagement Strategy,” aimed at promoting hockey worldwide. Despite challenges, including the loss of Pakistan’s hosting rights for the 2024 Olympic qualifiers, Ikram remains committed to reviving hockey in his home country.
He has pledged to develop a sustainable model for the sport, inspiring future generations and helping restore Pakistan’s dominance in global hockey.
